Marvel is reportedly rebooting a bunch of MCU characters for an upcoming sequel.

There are a few Marvel sequels in development at the moment, with the likes of Avengers: Doomsday, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, and Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 all slated for release in 2026.

Another MCU series set to debut next year is Vision Quest, which sees Paul Bettany’s Vision return to the canon along with James Spader’s Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron.

What’s more, it looks like Marvel might be tweaking the characters’ appearances to potentially save on VFX costs.

According to industry scooper DanielRPK (Daniel Richtman), Marvel is bringing back several AI characters from the MCU for the new Vision Quest series, but they’ll be rebooted to appear in human form.

This will mean Vision and Ultron will appear as humans as played by Bettany and Spader, and it should mean less time spent in heavy makeup or CGI costumes.

In addition to these pair, EDITH, JARVIS, and Jocasta will also allegedly appear as humans in the upcoming series (thanks, The Direct).

EDITH is the AI in housed in a pair of sunglasses created by Tony Stark, and appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

JARVIS, on the other hand, was Tony's AI that was housed in his many suits leading up to Avengers: Age of Ultron, also played by Paul Bettany.

It’s also rumoured that Kerry Condon could return as FRIDAY, the AI which replaced JARVIS in Age of Ultron and appeared in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Apparently, without the need to put these actors into heavy robotic makeup or use extensive CGI to portray them, the budget will be able to be spared elsewhere.

It’s a bold move, but we reckon it’ll pay off. James Spader is a terrific actor, after all, and his talents will be more apparent if he’s not in a CGI costume for the entire show.

There’s still a lot about Vision Quest that we don’t know yet, and probably won’t until we get closer to release.

Star Trek: Picard co-showrunner Terry Matalas is serves as the show’s creator and director, who will be joined by Chris Monfette, Michael A. Taylor, Cindy Appel, and Matt Okumura serving as writers.

Vision Quest is set to debut on Disney Plus in 2026.
