We’re mere days away from the launch of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie - and speculation is rife.
Just yesterday, it was confirmed that Star Fox features in the film - and for the uninitiated, no, Star Fox isn’t a character from within the Mario universe.
The only prior meeting of Star Fox and Mario has been within the Smash Bros. fighting franchise, leading many to wonder whether we could be heading towards an MCU-style Nintendo cinematic event.
Star Fox’s inclusion opens up a wealth of possibilities as to which other Smash Bros. characters could eventually join this growing franchise. Kirby, for example, feels a likely contender.

However, it’s perhaps more likely that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s post-credits scene will tease the arrival of two key villains ahead of another sequel.
You may recall that the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie ended with a post-credits scene teasing the arrival of Yoshi who is a key character in this second outing.
It’s perhaps not a stretch then to assume that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will end in a similar tease and if we stray away from the Smash Bros. theory, there are only three key Mario characters that are yet to appear in this film series.
Those are Wario, Waluigi, and Daisy.
It’s perhaps unlikely that a post-credits scene would confirm the arrival of all three as some secrets will be saved, but it’s practically a given that at least one of those aforementioned names will be teased in some capacity.
As wonderful as Daisy is - and I do hope to see her in the next instalment - it would be incredibly impactful to have Wario and Waluigi teased as the next film’s villains.

Well, villain is perhaps too strong of a word. Wario and Waluigi are considered more rivals than villains. They fulfilled that role perfectly in the recent Mario Tennis Fever story campaign.
Perhaps Mario and friends will find themselves up against Wario and Waluigi in some kind of race to put a stop to the film franchise’s next big bad.
While this is all speculation, it’s abundantly clear that Wario, Waluigi, and Daisy’s arrivals are a matter of when and not if.
It is humorous how long it’s taken Daisy to appear given that other iconic female characters like Peach, Rosalina, and Pauline have all now debuted.
It’s very much the embodiment of that meme “let’s all get film adaptations and not tell Daisy”. If you know, you know.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to launch on Wednesday 1 April.
While it’s not yet known who is voicing Star Fox, the film will introduce Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, Issa Rae as Honey Queen, and Luis Guzmán as Wart.
