We’ll put up a spoiler warning here for anyone who is still catching up on Stranger Things, and won’t want to be spoiled by what happens in the finale.

As viewers will remember, there comes a point in the Stranger Things Season 5 finale where the group is standing atop a radio tower in the Upside Down, in an attempt to jump to the otherworldly realm known as The Abyss.
At one point, the tower rocks violently as a result of its collision with The Abyss, thrusting fan favourite character Steve Harrington over the edge. He’s saved at the last minute by Jonathan Byers, a character that Steve had regularly been in a rivalry with across the show’s five seasons.

Stranger Things Cast React To Steve Harrington's Fall
The new documentary has captured the cast’s live reaction to this moment during the table read. As the script reads, “Steve gasps. He dangles midair, swaying, seemingly held by nothing.”

The script continues, “but then our camera rises to reveal a strong hand gripping tight to his wrist. It’s Jonathan. He’s caught him.”
This results in a round of applause from the cast and crew aimed at Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan in the Netflix show.
One Last Adventure: The Making Of Stranger Things 5 reveals a lot more things about the finale, including why Demogorgons weren’t included in the final battle.
According to the documentary, the final sequence originally contained a battle with Demogorgons, but this was cut this detail from the final battle, and instead keep the focus on Vecna and the Mind Flayer. I suppose I can understand that line of thinking, but on the other hand, it made for a rather boring finale.
