Popular character Eddie Munson from Stranger Things is returning in a brand new prequel that will delight his legion of fans.

Stranger Things debuted in 2016 and instantly became a hit series for the streaming platform, Netflix. Set in the 1980s, Stranger Things is inspired by movies such as The Goonies, packed with nostalgia and horror, which only that decade knew how to deliver.

Now, almost ten years after Stranger Things graced us with its presence, we’re preparing for its fifth and final season arriving in 2025. Fans who have been with the series since the beginning, know that it’s going to get very emotional having to say goodbye to its cherished cast of characters.

One of those fan-favourite characters is the aforementioned Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, who was introduced at the start of season four. Bully turned hero, Eddie wooed fans with his boyish charisma and his heroic moments in season four had taken social media by storm.

Fans will be hoping that Eddie makes a triumphant return in the final season, but in the meantime, as reported by Comicbook.com, the popular character is back in an epic Dungeons & Dragons crossover.

As fans of Stranger Things will know, the D&D tabletop RPG plays a huge role in the series and is often seen as a common bond that is the glue of many friendships. What’s more, Eddie is the leader of the D&D group, the Hellfire Club, so this collaboration is very fitting.

Fun fact, D&D was viewed as an act of satan during the 1980s with many hoping that the tabletop RPG would be banned from ever existing. The 80s was a weird time.

In collaboration with Dark Horse Comics, a new Stranger Things “D&D-focused” comic book series is on the way next year and will be a prequel to the events of season four. It will be written by Jody Houser and Eric Campbell with the artwork created by Diego Galindo.

“Spell slinging, sword swinging, and the luck of the dice have shaped the lives of the Stranger Things boys well before they had real monsters to face,” reads the synopsis of issue one.

“This D&D Crossover features Eddie Munson’s rise to de facto leader of the Hellfire Club, his recruitment of Lucas, Dustin, and Mike, and glimpses into the fantasy worlds they conquered together.”

Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Hellfire #1 will be released on 19 February 2025 wherever you buy your comic books.
