One week into 2026, it appears that Netflix’s first major blockbuster has already dethroned Stranger Things from the top spot on the platform.
Stranger Things has been one of Netflix’s golden goose television series for years, with the fifth and final season remaining one of the most anticipated seasons of TV ever.
Airing in three separate volumes starting in November, the series climaxed in an epic two-hour finale that saw the series wrap-up in a way that many fans felt was satisfying (or not, depending on who you speak to).
But with how quickly people move on nowadays, it looks like Stranger Things’ time at the top spot of Netflix has already ended, following a new miniseries release that just hit the platform this week.
Advert
As reported by The Direct, the streamer’s Top 10 for this week in the United States now features Run Away, a new mystery miniseries developed by Danny Brocklehurst.
Based on the 2019 novel by Harlan Coben, the series is about a desperate father searching for his runaway daughter, who gets caught up in a murder case and stumbles upon secrets that could destroy his family for good.
The series stars James Nesbitt, Ruth Jones, Ellie de Lange, Minnie Driver, and Alfred Enoch, running for eight episodes that are about 41–50 minutes each.

Stranger Things Topped By Run Away One Week After Release
Following the debut of Run Away, the Top 10 spot on Netflix right now is as follows:
- Run Away
- Stranger Things 5
- Found
- Emily in Paris
- Land of Sin
- Mark Rober’s Crunchlabs
- Dave Chappelle’s The Unstoppable
- Members Only Palm Beach
- The Beast In Me
- Ricky Gervais Mortality
Run Away was released on Netflix on 1 January, 2026, the same day as the fifth season of Stranger Things concluded.
However, unlike Stranger Things’ staggered release over two months, Run Away has received the streamer’s traditional approach of dropping every episode all at once, allowing users to binge the series over a few days if they are so inclined to.
As a miniseries based on a single book, a second season of the show is not expected to be in development, so you'll be able to watch the whole thing at once and get the full story.
So far, Run Away has positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the miniseries has a 78% approval rating based on 18 critic reviews. Meanwhile, on Metacritic it has a score of 56 out of 100, a weighted average based on eight critic reviews.
