Fans of Star Wars: The Acolyte are hoping that the project’s story could be completed in a movie sequel, and I’m definitely here for it.
You all know the situation by now; the brilliant The Acolyte was cancelled after just one season on Disney Plus.
It’s a show that generated a ton of discussion despite the fact that its viewing figures weren’t quite as high as they needed to be.
Many online will tell you that people didn’t tune in because the show is ‘woke’, i.e features a female lead character.

I hope I don’t need to tell you what absolute nonsense that is.
Star Wars: The Acolyte released during a period of franchise fatigue.
The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Mandalorian’s third season had all been … fine, but not much greater than fine.
Along came The Acolyte, a brand new story with no recognisable characters and, well, people just didn’t tune in.

It was a great little series though, if you ask me; everyone’s opinion will vary.
It offered a compelling story, particularly those strands concerning Qimir and Darth Plagueis, and the fight scenes were incredible.
Sadly, the show was cancelled before it could secure a season two renewal which means the series’ story remains cut-off and unfinished.
I can’t see Disney and Lucasfilm reversing its decision, but fans are wondering whether we might get a film that allows us to close this chapter properly.

“I dreamt there was an Acolyte sequel movie,” said Reddit user TheGreatKashar, kickstarting the conversation.
“We need one just to finish off the story line they started. Even if it’s direct to Disney Plus I’d watch it. I liked this series a lot and there’s no reason it should’ve been cancelled,” replied Fun_League9377.
This echoes my own feelings.
The Acolyte did not get enough viewers to warrant a big budget film, but I think a 90 to 120 minute straight-to-streaming film could offer the opportunity to tie up all the series’ loose ends.

“It would be sick if they did this. It could serve as not only a continuation of The Acolyte, but a prologue to TPM, and really flesh out some bits of the Sith grand plan in canon,” wrote ayylmao95.
User oliversam1_ made an interesting point, adding, “With how little runtime the show has, the first season should’ve been a movie too. Would’ve saved the annoying complaints of stuff that’s answered three to four weeks down the line.”
Well, there’s no word on whether an Acolyte film will ever actually happen but it’s clear to see that the fan appetite is there.
