Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Reimagined, New 80s Cast Has Us Stunned

Inspiring choices, we think

One Star Wars fan has reimagined the prequel trilogy with a new cast as if it was made in the 1980s, and the choices are quite imaginative.

As we all know, the Star Wars prequels were released in the 1990s and 2000s, featuring a star-studded cast that felt very appropriate of the time.

However, one might wonder what the cast of the Star Wars prequels would have looked like if it was released not long after the original trilogy. As posted on the Star Wars Reddit page, one user re-imagined the cast of the prequel films with actors that were popular in the ‘80s, using photoshop to edit them to look like their characters.

It begins with Kenneth Branagh as a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course, as we all know Ewan McGregor’s performance as the character ended up being one of the best parts of the prequel films.

With Branagh in the role, I imagine he’d have played Obi-Wan with a bit more of a Shakespearean gravitas, as his acting experience has shown.

Meanwhile, OP puts Back to the Future’s Lea Thompson in the role of Padmé Amidala, and River Phoenix as Anakin Skywalker. Two actors who I believe could portray the ‘doomed couple in love’ quite well.

After that, we also have Patrick Swayze as Qui-Gon Jinn, Michael Gross as Ki-Adi Mundi, Mario Van Peebles as Mace Windu, Sean Connery as Count Dooku, Al Leong as Jango Fett, Ernie Reyes Jr. as young Boba Fett, and Clint Howard as Yoda.

Okay, I think some of those are jokes, but that wouldn’t be a terrible cast lineup in all honesty.

An ‘80s Sean Connery as Count Dooku could work quite well, for example, even though that role would still probably work with Christopher Lee in the role.

“My kingdom to hear Connery say, ‘dark shide of the forshe’,” writes one fan in the comments.

“Assuming that the prequels continued to maintain a three-year gap between films, they would have been released in 1986, 1989, and 1992,” writes another fan.

“If that were the case, I think Liam Neeson would still be Qui-Gon and Christopher Lee would definitely still be Dooku.

"River Phoenix seems perfect to me. I don't know if Kenneth Branagh was already acting in films at that time, but he would make a good Obi Wan.

"Danny Glover would be my Windu.”

Channelling our inner Mr Glover, are we too old for this sh*t? Absolutely not. Let the debate continue.
