The Star Wars universe is bursting with characters, good and evil, who have appeared across the numerous films and TV shows.

Fans have their favourites, but two have had a little shout-out, a tribute, if you will, for going through all nine Star Wars films together.

Together through thick and thin, the droids are a mainstay.

Fans rallied on Reddit to give R2-D2 and C-3PO their flowers, for living through all nine major films of the Skywalker saga, and remaining “best friends".

The droids became such integral characters for the series, and one fan notes the importance, saying, “C3PO had the first line in A New Hope.”

In reply to this, another Redditor comments, “And the last line in Revenge of the Sith.”

The pair of droids have become some of the most recognisable icons of the series, always popping up and going along for the ride alongside Jedi and burgeoning Sith.

It’s hard to ignore them, but many only see the heroes and villains of the films, and there are the pair bumbling through everything.

“R2 lasting all nine movies is amazing considering he cursed up a storm in every one,” jokes LoudKingCrow.

All their journeys culminated in Rise of Skywalker, and we bid the droids goodbye.

Eriktrexy9 wistfully notes, “Their lines together in ROS really got me. ‘You’ve been a true friend.’”

“I love them. Threepio was particularly perfect in the last movie,” says one fan of the films.

As the only two characters to appear in all of the episodic films, their legacy is cemented as two of the greats, even if I’ve secretly hated C-3PO all my life.

I was always a fan of R2 though, because he was such a rebellious little droid, and C-3PO felt far too overbearing for my young mind.

I will give them their flowers, though, and they kept us laughing throughout.
