I’ve always assumed Mace Windu to be dead, but that may not actually be the case.
If you’ve seen Revenge of the Sith, you’ll know that Windu was sent plummeting to his death by Emperor Palpatine after being subjected to force lightning.
Sure, a body wasn’t shown but surely even a talented Jedi Master like Mace Windu could not survive a fall from that height.

Well, Samuel L. Jackson disagrees.
He previously said the following to Variety, “HE’S NOT DEAD,” adding that he’d be up for returning as the character.
That’s something Lucasfilm has seemingly contemplated.
It’s now come to light that Bryce Dallas Howard, who directed episodes of Skeleton Crew, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian, asked Dave Filoni if a Windu return might be possible.

“I harass Dave Filoni a lot about a lot of things, and that's just one… that was a fun conversation, but didn't add up to anything,” she told The Direct.
Just because it didn’t add up to anything, it doesn’t mean it won’t one day.
What would a Mace Windu return look like though? Would it be a sequel, confirming that the character did in fact survive Revenge of the Sith?
Perhaps it would fill in a gap in Windu’s earlier years, using pricey de-aging technology?

Either way, fans are torn over the whole debacle.
“After just finishing up a full series rewatch, I really think we’re good. We had NINE movies of that story. There’s so much more to tell. So many new avenues to explore. I hope they keep pushing forward. We have exhausted that storyline,” wrote Twitter user RealMatSmith, and I feel much the same.
“It's ok to keep characters dead. Not everyone needs to come back,” added DarkCouncil66.
“I wouldn’t mind having him come back. I just wonder what story they’d tell about his return. I think there are some interesting ways you could use him but ultimately I think we’d just see him come back to go out with a bigger bang,” commented XIIILykos.

It’s true. Is it worth retreading old ground? I’ll take new original story telling like Skeleton Crew or Andor any day.
Star Wars does indulge itself in fan-service though, so I wouldn’t rule a Windu return out completely.
