Star Wars fans rarely agree on anything, whether it comes to lore, the treatment of legacy characters, or the future of the franchise, but we can all agree on one thing, the Palpatine stuff in The Rise of Skywalker was awful.
Not only was it awful that Palpatine somehow returned, but it was bafflingly ludicrous, even for a sci-fi series like Star Wars.
Somehow, Palpatine returned in The Rise of Skywalker.
The fact that the final film in the modern trilogy could have strived for so much more, and resorted to bringing out old villains for no reason more than nostalgia, still stings.

And, according to one Redditor, still makes no sense.
In their thread, Will_da_Thrill12 wondered if Palps really cloned himself to have kids, or whether he simply had a secret family.
It fell to other Redditors to try and clear up any confusion, even though the actual answers are still dumb.
“One of the clones made at Exogal was genetically viable but not able to use the force, he got off Exogal and had Rey, who Palpatine tried to take but was unable to,” said NerdHistorian.

Another user joked, “I believe it was a clone, but it'd be funny to see Palps at the local bar trying to hook up, all for the longevity of his empire.”
It was a bit silly that such a huge plot point was brought up with no other explanation, or even moments showing the son of Palpatine.
Many fans believe not putting into the actual film was ridiculous, and consider it to be a bit of a plot hole.
Though one fan makes the argument that it would have been too much exposition for the film, explaining, “When would you have had it come up? Like, besides having Palpatine awkwardly info-dump it or them leaving around random datapads about it for Rey or Ben to discover inside the temple.”

I’d still say that such a huge lore-based plot point needed more time to cook.
