Star Wars fans stunned by brutal new Acolyte tease: 'I don't believe this'

This wouldn't have been family-friendly

Star Wars fans would have been left stunned if this brutal scene hadn't been cut from The Acolyte.

Say what you like about the now-cancelled Disney Plus series, The Acolyte, but I think it’s fair to say that it was a squandered opportunity that could have been so much more.

Set during the High Republic era, about 130 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, The Acolyte had a unique opportunity to tell prequel stories in live-action form, which had mostly been reserved for novels and comics.

Sadly, The Acolyte missed several marks thanks to its at times silly writing and mostly unlikable leading characters. Both of which were always going to be a recipe for disaster, Star Wars or not.

However, one of the few saving graces of The Acolyte, in my opinion, was the character originally referred to as “The Stranger”, played by Manny Jacinto.

As brought to our attention by the Twitter account ‘Star Wars Holocron’ (via ScreenRant), during a panel at the Denver Fan Expo, a scene featuring The Stranger was cut for being too brutal.

“Star Wars has always been PG, but you want to find some brutal aspects of these fights... There was one moment, I think, where I just take one Jedi and kept slamming his head onto a rock, because we wanted to show how brutal this guy could be, without any remorse,” revealed Jacinto.

While I doubt this cut moment would have been as brutal as the gory scene from Daredevil: Born Again, it would have at least made The Acolyte more interesting, even if for a brief moment.

“I don’t believe this,” tweeted a fan replying to Star Wars Holocron.

“Never should’ve deleted that scene,” said kasaibeats6.

“Apparently, the director wanted it to be a Sith-centric show, but LucasFilm said no,” claimed KingOfTheSquirl.

“Give me season two, please!” demanded robporter1970.

“And that's why this turd sank,” exclaimed SWT_Channel. “The Acolyte makers never understood George's ‘patriarchal’ Star Wars.”

“Can we get an R-rated movie, for The Stranger?” asked cammersjdl.

Season one of The Acolyte is still available to watch right now on Disney Plus.
