When the showrunners behind the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe series promised that it would be “grotesque”, they clearly were not lying, because reactions to the latest scene to come out of the show are a mix of shock and awe.

Just a heads up: this article contains spoilers for the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again. If you’re not caught up yet, this is your final warning to stop reading before you get spoiled!

Daredevil: Born Again’s season finale, “Straight to Hell,” aired on Tuesday night (or Wednesday morning if you’re not American), and there’s one very specific scene that everyone has (understandably) been hyperfocusing on.

Around about the halfway point in the episode, Commissioner Gallo finally managed to push Fisk a little bit too far… and, well, if you’ve seen the episode, you probably know what happened next.

Over on a Twitter post reacting to a video of the gruesome scene, MCU fans are mostly just shocked that Disney allowed the showrunners to push things that far.

“Im ngl when they said there was a "shockingly violent scene" in the show I didnt think it would be that shocking or violent…” commented user @mosercarlie, “but honestly they werent lying.”

“I forgot we were watching a Disney show for a second during this scene…” replied user @CHEEZYSPAM.

“Incredible violence all throughout. The showrunners delivered!”

Honestly, I find it kind of amusing that there were lots of pretty grisly things peppered throughout Daredevil: Born Again, and yet they all look PG compared to Gallo getting his head literally twisted in half.

Daredevil double leg stomped a dude’s leg in half, The Punisher murdered like 300 people, and one guy even got atomised by a train, but damn… I’m not gonna be able to get the image of Gallo’s dome popping like a zit out of my head for a long time.

Here’s hoping Disney continue to let the showrunners cook in season two.
