At a recent Star Wars event, Kathleen Kennedy announced the plans for the future of the franchise and it seems as though fans should get ready for the 50th anniversary.
For LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy, attending Star Wars events is just part of the job but with the franchise’s 50th anniversary on the horizon, it is no wonder that fans are eager to learn what they have planned.
Well, at the recent screening of George Lucas’ iconic movie at BFI Southbank, Kennedy was there to introduce the original 1977 print of Star Wars.

“In these very special screenings, we present the film exactly as experienced by audiences on its original 1977 release,” BFI has revealed.
“Screening from one of the precious handful of dye transfer IB Technicolor prints produced uniquely for the first British release, and preserved in the BFI National Archive, this has some of the wear that comes with an archive print, but its colour is gloriously unfaded. Truly unmissable.”
Before the movie was shown however, Kennedy was interviewed about her thoughts on the project and it was not long before talk turned to the 50th anniversary of Star Wars which will take place in 2027.
According to the LucasFilm president, the company is “already talking about what [the 50th anniversary] celebration” will look like and adds that it will be “unbelievable”.

Although this is not much to go by, it is still encouraging to learn that big plans are in place for such a momentous occasion.
“If it's big big, Lucas has to do something with it,” one fan commented.
Another user had high hopes for the anniversary, saying, “Hype! Hoping for a New Hope cinema rerelease (original cut) and a 4K steelbook set of all Star Wars films (including original and updated versions).”
There are still a couple of years to go before Star Wars celebrates its 50th anniversary but in the meantime, we fortunately have many related projects to look forward to.
