Return To Silent Hill Drops First Trailer, And It’s A Divisive One

Not everyone is impressed

Not every Silent Hill fan is impressed with the first proper trailer for the upcoming movie, Return to Silent Hill.

For the first time in years, the Silent Hill franchise is more popular than it’s been in a long time, largely thanks to my personal game of the year for 2024, the Silent Hill 2 remake developed by Bloober Team.

In my review of Silent Hill 2, I said: “Bloober Team has finally realised its potential, and its remake of Silent Hill 2 deserves its place amongst the upper echelon of modern survival horror greats.”

Following on from the success of the remake of the beloved sequel, earlier this year, Konami and Bloober Team announced that it is now working on remaking the original Silent Hill that launched on the PlayStation in 1999.

At the time of writing, the remake of the original Silent Hill does not have a release date, but it might be safe to assume that it’s probably a couple of years away (at least) from launching.

However, before we’re treated to that remake, we’re getting the movie Return to Silent Hill, set to be released in cinemas in January 2026.

Despite being the third Silent Hill movie, Return to Silent Hill will completely ignore the 2012 abomination that is Silent Hill: Revelation and will instead act as a direct sequel to the first movie released in 2006, directed by Christophe Gans.

To be fair, with Silent Hill (2006) being inspired by the original PS1 game, and Return to Silent Hill being inspired by the sequel, it makes sense that the 2012 movie is being ignored (along with the fact that it’s pants).

Now, courtesy of IGN, the first proper trailer for Return to Silent Hill has been released, and it’s fair to say that not everyone is impressed with the release which sees Christophe Gans reclaiming directorial duties.

“Why does this look like a big-budget film, yet a fan film at the same time?” asked MovieMediaX, replying to a tweet by DiscussingFilm.

“I speak for everyone when I say WE ARE WATCHING THIS!” declared the presumptuous GoblinGhos81750.

“I enjoyed the first movie. But the second one was so bad, I'll wait for this to come to streaming before I even think about watching it,” exclaimed Alickaard. “Sadly, this is probably going to be another crappy cash grab.”

“I love Silent Hill, but this looks like trash,” said the1andonly2233.

“I don't really like horror films, but I'll definitely watch this,” said midnightbobarun.

At the time of writing, Return to Silent Hill is set to arrive in cinemas on 23 January 2026.
