Based upon the novels from Andrzej Sapkowski, in recent years, The Witcher has become one of Netflix’s flagship programs.

Starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher live-action adaption not only became popular with fans of the novels but also with those who have immersed themselves in the video games created by CD Projekt RED.

Being both a fan of the novels and the video game series, in particular The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Henry Cavill was a perfect fit for the role of Geralt bringing an unbridled passion and a typical grizzled look that only the Man of Steel could provide.

Unfortunately, due to reported conflicts behind the scenes, Henry Cavill’s time as Geralt would come to an end with season three of The Witcher being his final hurrah. To be honest, while Cavill’s final episode was fine, it felt a little underwhelming considering this would be the last time we’d see the actor portray the role.

Filling the big void that Henry Cavill will leave behind is Liam Hemsworth. The casting of Liam Hemsworth hasn't gone down well with passionate fans following a barrage of season three review bombs, but in fairness, we won’t know how well-suited he is in the role of Geralt until the arrival of season four. Regardless, it’s still going to take some getting used to.

At this time, we don’t have a release date for The Witcher season four. Given how long it takes for each new season to arrive when the previous season ends, we could be waiting until late 2024 if we’re lucky or into 2025.

Earlier this year, Netflix played the risky move of announcing that season five of The Witcher is confirmed, despite not yet knowing when season four will premiere. Not to mention, we have no idea how fans will react to the new Geralt.

However, as reported by Redanian Intelligence (a great source of The Witcher information), season five will be the last. What’s more, it’s claimed that both season four and season five will pretty much be filmed back to back to avoid potential delays. So at least we might not be waiting too long in between seasons.

At this time, these are unconfirmed rumours, so we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, perhaps ending The Witcher in season five would be the best move. For example, if the two final seasons suck, it will be wise to put the series out of its misery. If they end up being fantastic and Liam Hemsworth knocks it out of the park, at least it might end on a high instead of unnecessarily dragging the series out.
