We’ve been in denial ever since it was announced Henry Cavill was leaving The Witcher, but now we’ve got an official first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, we cannot deny reality any longer.

This is happening. Netflix’s The Witcher is (some would say foolishly) moving on without Cavill, and we now have Hemsworth as Geralt.

Hemsworth’s arrival has been teased a lot over the last few months, most recently that season four will introduce a new look for the beloved monster hunter. We don't see this "new look" in this peek behind the scenes, but we can see the cast doing read throughs for the new season.

Speaking of The Witcher, don't forget that The Witcher Sirens of the Deep is on its way!

Despite Netflix being all rainbows and sunshine about this, the fans are less so. One fan simply commented, “RIP The Witcher.” Another posted with more venom, “You made it garbage.”

Ouch.

For those who believe the show is now dying a painfully public death, there is some light at the end of this dark tunnel: there’s only two more seasons to go.

That’s right, the TV show has only been renewed for season four and five, with the fifth being the “fitting conclusion” to this “epic” adaptation. Those are Netflix’s words, not ours – don’t slay the messengers!

Although a once great show is seemingly dying before our very eyes, there's hope elsewhere in The Witcher franchise, chiefly with The Witcher 4. The latest development update is just what we needed to hear, thus helping to restore our dwindling faith.

We know that for the vast majority of you, Henry Cavill will always be “your Witcher”. However, because we don’t want to unfairly damn Hemsworth’s portrayal of Geralt just yet, let’s try to remain optimistic.

We know it’s hard, but that’s how we make it through this.
