The Witcher fans can rejoice to learn that the next entry in the franchise, The Witcher 4, has just received a development update and it sounds quite promising to say the least.

It has been almost 10 years since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released and despite multiple DLCs, a Netflix show and more, fans are still desperate for more of the monster-slaying fantasy world.

However, the wait for more may be over a lot sooner than we think thanks to a recent development update from Paweł Sasko, quest designer of Cyberpunk 2077.

Codenamed Project Polaris, The Witcher 4’s existence was first confirmed back in October 2022 when CD Projekt Red co-CEO Adam Badowski reported that the team would reportedly have “400 people working on the project by the end of the year”.

Since then, The Witcher 4’s development news has been on the quiet side which is perhaps unsurprising considering CD Projekt Red are also hard at work on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel currently known as Project Orion.

As for The Witcher 4, Sasko has confirmed that it is being “intensively worked on” in an interview with Aftermath. Additionally, he revealed that some of the Cyberpunk 2077 team has also moved over to work on it.

However, Cyberpunk 2077 fans do not need to worry about this news as Project Orion is still firmly on track with Sasko confirming that "most managers and most directors who worked on Cyberpunk and Phantom Liberty are on [the new] Cyberpunk.”

Despite the sequel being in active development, it is still in its “early stages” and it is no wonder the team are taking things slow after the less-than-smooth release of Cyberpunk 2077. Furthermore, Sasko also revealed that avoiding crunch will be important to the game’s development.

With CD Projekt Red currently working on multiple projects at different speeds, it is currently unknown when we can expect both The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2. However, with such an eager fanbase, they could not come quick enough.
