One of the MCU’s ex-writers has revealed that Jonathan Majors’ Kang was supposed to appear in at least one more Marvel project, prior to being axed from the franchise entirely.
I probably don’t have to give you the context behind the whole downfall of Jonathan Majors’ career at this point, but it’s fair to say that there’s a good reason he was cut from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, while Majors’ place in Disney’s MCU was understandably cut, many don’t understand why Kang, the guy that could literally be recast with zero explanation, didn’t see further play in the universe.
Well, it turns out that Majors was supposed to reprise his role in the MCU at least one more time.

As detailed in an article by The Direct's Jeff Ewing, ex-Marvel writer Beau DeMayo (who was also, coincidentally, fired from his role at Disney for a completely different reason) revealed that Majors was originally set to return as Kang in X-Men '97 season 2.
Interestingly, DeMayo revealed that, following Majors’ scandal, Star Trek: The Next Generation actor John de Lancie was hired to replace him.
So, does this mean that we’ll still see Kang pop up in future MCU projects? Nope!
As detailed in an article by The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit and Pamela McClintock, there’s basically zero chance you’ll see Kang back on our screens any time soon… because Kevin Feige confirmed as much.

“We had started even before what had happened to the actor happened, we had started to realize that Kang wasn’t big enough, wasn’t Thanos, and that there was only one character that could be that, because he was that in the comics for decades and decades,” Feige revealed.
“Because of the Fox acquisition, we finally had it, and it was Dr. Doom. So we had started talking about Dr. Doom even before we officially pivoted from Kang.”
It’s funny to me that Feige is basically trying to say “nobody watched Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” without actually saying it, but hey… hopefully Avengers: Doomsday is better than what we would have gotten anyway?
