They say that two 'webs' are better than one, and even though Insomniac Games has its plate pretty full at the moment, fresh reports claim the superhero powerhouse could be gearing up to drop a surprise game in 2027.

While 2026 looks like it'll belong to GTA VI, Insomniac Games remains undeterred and is on track to release Marvel's Wolverine on September 15. We know that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is in production, while another Ratchet & Clank is heavily rumoured to be on the way. Beyond that, there are any number of ways the lauded developer could expand its universe of Marvel games, with December 2023's massive data leak locking in numerous releases between now and 2030. Despite the apparent legitimacy of the leak, Sony and Insomniac have gone quiet on the idea that a proposed Venom spin-off is still coming.

Insomniac's Venom Game Could Swing Into Action In 2027

A Venom game akin to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was referenced in the Insomniac megaleak, although Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter told the Love it Film podcast that the tragic passing of Tony Todd in 2024 led to the project's cancellation. Jeter only left players more confused when he referred to the Venom game and a DLC, later clarifying this was a full-blown game rather than a suffix to 2023's Marvel's Spider-Man 2. His claims that Venom was axed led to Bloomberg reporter and noted scooper Jason Schreier posting on ResetEra, simply saying: "This isn't true."

Posting on X, Spider-Fan @REDACTEDSpider claims the Venom game is still in the works, and better yet, it's targeting a 2027 release date.

The OP wrote: "It's still on track for a 2027 release. Likely September of 2027. Insomniac is heads down on 3 (technically 4) projects atm, Wolverine (almost gold) Venom, Spider-Man 3 and the next entry in Ratchet and Clank."

In the replies, someone who'd asked for information on the Venom game shared an interaction with concept artist Daryl Mandryk, who'd worked on some symbiote designs. When asked if we'll see Venom again and if that could be in a solo game, Mandryk said, "I think the odds are good."

Replying to @REDACTEDSpider, one fan cheered: "I’m praying it’s still happening….a Venom Game one of my most anticipated Games."

Another shared the Hawkeye "don't give me hope" meme, and a third said: "So could its announcement be at The Game Awards? Or maybe during a State of Play in September after the release of Wolverine 🙏🏻."

2027 already has major games including Final Fantasy VII: Revelation and The Witcher 4, but assuming Marvel's Wolverine is as huge as it looks, Marvel's Venom could be a juggernaut.

Insomniac's Massive Marvel Potential

It's true that Todd said he'd voiced a lot more Venom dialogue, telling audiences at Fan Expo San Francisco 2023 that Insomniac only used about 10% of what he recorded. This has kept those rumours alive, but for now, we're left waiting for confirmation that a Venom game even exists, let alone whether it's been cancelled.

As for what else Insomniac is working on, we'll head back to that leak.

We've already been told that the X-Men don't exist in Marvel's Wolverine, but with Jean Grey confirmed to be part of the story, Charles Xavier's gifted youngsters could be waiting in the wings. The way we imagine it, there will be at least a cameo from Professor X to set up the inevitable sequel. Speaking of which, the Insomniac leak pitched Marvel's X-Men as a full standalone and part of a new licensing agreement for a potential fall 2030 release.

An online multiplayer game dubbed Spider-Man: The Great Web has seemingly been shown the door, although Marvel's Spider-Man 3 was tipped for a fall 2028 release. That was also listed as potentially being a two-part game, so strap in for a lot more Web-Head.

Bearing in mind the Insomniac leak originally listed Venom for a fall 2025 release, we'll temper our expectations that we'll be suiting up as the sinister symbiote in 2027.
