The latest outing of Deadpool features several variants of Wolverine in his search for the Wolverine he ends up spending the film with.
Many of those instances of Wolverine are pulled directly from old comic book stories, but one of them is a very special cameo.

It goes without saying that I’m about to spoil this cameo, so if you haven’t seen the film yet, then scram bub.
Right, so, Henry Cavill appears as a variant of Wolverine in a great scene and fans on Twitter seem to think that this is a tease for the next casting of Wolverine.
The post says, “I think Henry Cavill's the Earth 616 Wolverine. They put his cameo to check how the audience will react and now we know the response is unanimously positive for Cavillrine.”
Now while the response has been great, there’s no way that Cavill will be the next Wolverine.
That’s not to say he couldn’t do it, following Hugh Jackman is going to be tough and Cavill could do it, but if many think he’s too old to play Superman, then he’s likely too old for Wolverine, too.
While plenty of fans in the thread love the idea, it’s really unlikely that Marvel is testing audiences. If that was the case, John Krasinski would be our Mr Fantastic as fans wanted that for years and it happened.
It’s more likely that the next Wolverine - if Marvel even attempts it - will be an unknown actor or an upcoming talent.
Fan casting is a wonderful thing, but it seems that the folks under that tweet are torn with many thinking it’s a silly idea.
One Twitter user has a good point “It’s going to be X23, she’s the next wolverine. Henry is well better suited to be Scott Summers.”
X-23 would make for a more interesting choice and we know she made it out of the void, too.
