The stakes have to be high with the next two Avengers films, not only because the audience expects the good guys to win, so there has to be a balance of loss, but also because this MCU saga needs to go out with a bang.
Ever since the announcement of Avengers: DOOMSDAY, fans have speculated that certain heroes will die at the hands of the new Marvel big bad, Doctor Doom.
For a while now, this thought has gathered steam, with all signs pointing to Thor taking the killing blow.

This makes sense for the sake of the story, being that he’s a founding Avenger, plus Chris Hemsworth has been on a kind of farewell tour for the character.
According to Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, Marvel wants to give Thor “a big, proper death in an Avengers movie.”
It’s worth remembering, this is the world of comic books and dead doesn’t always mean dead, though perhaps we’ll see Thor played by a different actor, or instead, get Beta Ray Bill as a replacement while Hemsworth takes a well-earned break.
Perez went on to say, “Keep in mind, I said they wanted to give Thor a big, proper death in an Avengers movie. That does not automatically imply that Thor is gone forever. Let’s not forget, there’s still a place waiting for Thor at the end of it all.”

The actor has portrayed Thor of many years and played the role in over a dozen different projects, and his death would cement what a menace Doctor Doom really is.
Of the original Avengers, Thor is one of the four that remain alive, after the death of Black Widow and Tony Stark, though Steve Rogers has also ended his run, too.
These characters, and actors, are going to have to start bowing out to give younger heroes the chance to shine, and Marvel will want to shift focus onto a new Avengers line-up.
