Marvel fans are torn about a Fantastic Four rumour that could see a major cameo in a post-credits scene.

In the MCU, post-credit scenes are a big deal, not only planting seeds for the next movies but also helping to keep the hype momentum rolling. It’s basically a Marvel tradition.

I remember being the only person sitting in an empty cinema with my wife (who certainly wasn't as enthusiastic as me), waiting for the MCU post-credit scene. Now, everyone has gatecrashed that party, you scallywags.

The next MCU movie to arrive is Thunderbolts* which will conclude Phase Five as we get ready for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Being the last movie before Phase Six, fans will no doubt be hoping for a worthy Thunderbolts* post-credit scene.

Earlier this week, the main cast was revealed for Avengers: Doomsday which announced names one-by-one for a total of over five hours (yes, really). As exciting as that moment should have been, some fans were angered that it seemingly ruined Thunderbolts*.

As for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, rumours are making the rounds that Chris Evans (no, not the ginger from England) will feature in a post-credit scene. Of course, Chris Evans played Steve Rogers aka Captain America in the MCU.

However, he’s also played another Marvel character, Jonny Storm aka Human Torch in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) when the license was owned by 20th Century Fox.

“Chris Evans is set to make MCU return in The Fantastic Four: First Steps according to a new rumour,” posted Redditor WorthyCap24, sharing an article from Comicbookmovie.com.

To be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about this. Especially considering they concluded Stever Rogers’ story so well in Avengers: Endgame, for the same reason I’m still not overly keen for Robert Downey Jr. returning in Avengers: Doomsday.

The only plus side of Robert Downey Jr. returning in my opinion, is that he’s not playing Tony Stark aka Iron Man. I would like to assume that if Chris Evans does return, he’ll also be playing a different character.

Whether that character is Johnny Storm or someone totally different, remains to be seen.

“I could see a post-credit scene where they introduce the incursions and a desperate Johnny variant played by Evans who has crossed over for help because his own Reed has become a twisted darker Maker Reed, who has done terrible things to preserve their universe,” said lazymanschair1701.

“I kind of hope they don't go multiverse with it. It's fun and all but it's getting overdone, don't do any more multiverse variant stuff until Avengers: Doomsday,” pleaded Nicologixs.

“This is one of the few times I’m actually against a cameo like this,” exclaimed Demerchmichael. “Whether he’s Human Torch or Steve Rogers, it doesn’t matter. I so desperately want this movie to be a standalone (until Avengers: Doomsday).”

“Wouldn’t hate it,” replied SmellsLikeWetFox.

Thunderbolts* releases in cinemas on 2 May and The Fantastic Four: First Steps on 25 July 2025.
