With a soft reboot planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the release of Avengers: Secret Wars, fans are left feeling divided over the fate of one beloved character.

Although it has not yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios itself, rumours have been circulating online that a soft reboot or reset is in the pipeline for the Marvel Cinematic Universe once Avengers: Secret Wars is released in December 2027.

This could mean that many of our favourite characters will be recast and teams will be shifted around to an almost unrecognisable state.

So it is no surprise that fans are worried that some of their favourite characters and their actors will be recast.

A discussion recently kicked off over on r/MCUTheories with one user posting, “Would you like a Deadpool recast after Secret Wars or do you think the character's success in cinema is tied to Reynolds?”

This feels hard to believe considering how much effort Ryan Reynolds has put into producing and marketing the Deadpool franchise.

However, it is a possibility that he could be replaced, and fans soon headed to the comments to share their thoughts.

“Ryan Reynolds seems to fit the role fine as of now, and it would be odd for them to give him his own movie right before recasting him,” the top comment reads.

Another fan claims that 80% of the success of Deadpool is thanks to Reynolds.

“Deadpool before him was a gimmick character which only deep comic fans knew about,” they continued.

“Casual audiences didn't even know he existed. Ryan marketed and pushed Deadpool to the point that he turned from side character to one of the centre pieces.”

It seems as though the majority of fans wish for Reynolds to stay and contribute the Deadpool franchise’s success to him.

Hopefully, Marvel will take note of this if a soft reboot is on the cards, but with Avengers: Secret Wars not expected to hit cinemas until 17 December 2027, we still have a long time until we find out.
