MCU Crossover With DCU Was In The Works

This would have been something else...

Marvel and DC have competed for the longest time but it’s almost always been good-natured, never malicious.

It’s the fans that are more likely to argue over with Marvel characters can beat Superman, which has the better films, could Batman solo the MCU etc.

The companies themselves though are pretty friendly though and have even crossed over in the comics a handful of times, with another on the way uniting Superman and Spider-Man.

Marvel and DC have never had a crossover on the big-screen though, but believe it or not that almost changed this year.

James Gunn’s DCU kicked off with Superman (2025) and the story has continued in Peacemaker Season 2. The second season ended last and while the final episode left viewers wanting more it doesn’t sound like we’re getting a third season. Gunn has said that the events of Peacemaker will be relevant in Superman: Man Of Tomorrow though.

The final episode involved ARGUS exploring alternate dimensions so many were expecting some deep-cut cameos. We unfortunately didn’t get any but Gunn recently said in an interview he wanted Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool to appear.

“I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room,” said Gunn in an interview with Variety. “I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it. But I would’ve had to go through some pretty, pretty big hoops to do that. He wanted to do it!”

He then joked that he should have never brought the plan up, saying “Oh, that’s all anybody’s gonna talk about now, is f****** Deadpool in the other room. I should’ve never said it!”

As funny as that would be, it's understandable why it didn’t go ahead, as Disney would have likely needed some heavy convincing to allow one of its MCU characters to appear in a DC project.

While we didn’t see any actual Marvel characters Peacemaker Season 2 did name-drop one of them, as when Vigilante meets his alternate universe self they recreate the Spider-Man pointing meme before both saying “we Spider-Man memed!” So does that mean the MCU is canon in the DCU? Just the comics? Who knows.

With so much dimension-hopping in our superhero media nowadays I’d love to see Marvel and DC characters crossover in a live-action project God knows how it’d work or what storyline it’d follow but it’d be a cinematic spectacle for the ages.
