Marvel officially teases MCU project we all thought was cancelled

All is not lost

Marvel fans had all but given up hope that this project survived, yet a recent tease from the brand has reignited those dying embers of hope once more.

Cancellations of highly anticipated projects, while uncommon, can and do happen.

After a series of delays and false starts, one MCU project has proven a consistent cause of stress for Marvel fans.

The development of a new Blade film should be cause for celebration, especially considering how well-loved Blade (1998) is.

What will become of another fan-favourite hero in Venom: The Last Dance?

While fans didn’t expect to recapture the gritty 90s atmosphere of that iconic film, they had hoped that a new dawn for the Daywalker would allow the character to take more of an active role in the MCU.

When a new star was added to the Blade movie cast, fans were excited to see that the project, while proceeding slowly, was still going ahead.

That was back in April 2023.

Since that time, the film has been in a weird kind of limbo, with fans having all but convinced themselves that Marvel has quietly cancelled Blade.

But now we’re seeing official updates on the project, and while it isn’t exactly full steam ahead, it doesn’t seem like Marvel is quite finished with this fan-favourite anti-hero just yet.

During the Agatha All Along press tour, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios head of streaming, about the MCU’s portrayal of horror.

Amidst those discussions, a casual reference to Blade was included.

“I think that it goes back to the filmmaker's intent. The horror on screen in Agatha is going to be different than the horror on screen in Marvel Zombies; is going to be different than the horror on screen in Blade,” they said.

It’s not much to go on, however, Winderbaum’s comment teases that Blade is still being worked on despite Marvel’s radio silence.

Nonetheless, while it hasn’t been cancelled, it’s highly unlikely it will release in 2025.

This film has been dogged with so many issues, not to mention the various delays, it would be nothing short of a miracle for it to be released within the next year.

All that matters is that Blade hasn’t been killed off, though – our beloved Daywalker is still destined to return to the big screen, we just have no idea when.
