Marvel fans convinced Mephisto has finally made his MCU debut

Better the devil you know

Back in 2021 the planet was briefly united by a newfound appreciation for the art of properly washing your hands, and WandaVision.

Marvel's first MCU Disney Plus series was a smash hit, doubtless helped by the fact a lot of us couldn't actually leave our homes.

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding its popularity, WandaVision was a genuinely great slow burn mystery that seemed to kick up the same question every single week as the credits rolled: was that guy/woman/dog/fly Mephisto?

For those coming to the party late, Mephisto is basically Marvel's equivalent of the devil. Given all the magic flying around in WandaVision, many assumed he had a hand in the naughtiness. Not so.

Of course now Agatha All Along, ostensibly a sequel series to WandaVision, is airing, fans once again believe Mephisto will make an appearance.

To be fair, it's already looking much more likely. The ancient demon got his very first proper MCU mention in an earlier episode of the series for one thing, and Mephisto has strong links to Agatha and her son.

So it is that the latest trailer for the final few episodes of Agatha All Along have led to fervent speculation that a mysterious figure stood in the shadows in one split-second shot has to be big daddy M.

As you can see above, there's no real way to tell anything about the mystery man (or woman), stood with their back to the camera and rocking a rather lovely bucket hat. My guess is it's an Oasis fan, which is worse than anything the MCU's version of hell could ever cough up.

Anyway, the general consensus seems to be that this is none other than Mephisto, finally making his first proper physical appearance in the MCU.

I'm not saying it definitely isn't, and it would be cool to see Marvel tease such a massive threat to the MCU in a show with a minuscule budget, but I do believe those expectations need to be tempered somewhat.
