Marvel fans surprised as beloved Avenger returns for new MCU movie

A major MCU star is keeping busy behind the scenes

A Marvel Cinematic Universe fan-favourite is set to return, albeit in a completely new role - and no, I’m not talking about Robert Downey Jr’s upcoming turn as Victor Von Doom.

Fair to say, the MCU is now firmly heading in the right direction.

If I had to pick a word to describe The Multiverse Saga up till now, I think I’d go with lacklustre.

It introduced us to some wonderful characters, but so too has Marvel taken a few missteps in this era.

You can’t, first of all, expect us to immediately have the same level of attachment with these new characters when we’ve just come away from a decade-in-the-making event like Avengers: Endgame.

Then there’s the fact that Kang was a pretty weak villain, with his variants ridding the character of any sense of intrigue.

It’s out with the old and in with new.

The first trailer for Thunderbolts* has arrived, The Multiverse Saga’s first team-up film, and judging by the response to the trailer, it’s clear that Marvel is continuing to win fans over.

This is where that aforementioned returning star comes into play.

An MCU favourite is tied to Thunderbolts* but not in an acting role this time around. No, a production role.

Take a look at the brand new trailer for Thunderbolts* below.

It’s been revealed that Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson is an executive producer on Thunderbolts*.

While this may not be the Natasha Romanoff comeback we all want - although she is dead, so that’s pretty unlikely - it’s wonderful to see that Scarlett isn’t yet planning on totally leaving the MCU behind.

Scarlett’s yet to publicly comment on the production role but it was confirmed in the recently launched trailer.

The trailer for Thunderbolts* certainly holds its narrative cards close to its chest.

We know that this team of misfits will be gathered together seemingly by someone who wants to kill them but beyond that, it’s a jumble of scenes and clips that don’t really make sense.

I can only assume the film will see the group try to address who would have such a vendetta and why.

Thunderbolts* is set to launch in May 2025.
