According to the latest sources, Marvel will be officially renaming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers 5 until further notice.

In case you missed the news, film and TV star Jonathan Majors has been convicted of assault and is currently facing a year in prison.

Majors recently reprised his role as the antagonist of the Loki Disney+ show, which recently aired its second season

In March of this year, the 34-year-old was arrested for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. According to Jabbari, Majors had been sending romantic texts to someone with his phone, and following an attempt to take the device from him, the actor reportedly grabbed Jabbari’s arm, twisted it, and struck her over the head.

Early this week Majors was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree aggravated assault.

As a result, he’ll no longer be playing the primary antagonist of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe saga, Kang The Conqueror, much to the dismay of fans.

Majors has already played the character in a few projects so far, namely both seasons of the Disney+ show Loki, in addition to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

This leaves the future of the MCU up in the air, as the only choices Marvel currently has is to pivot the direction of the franchise to another villain, possibly the current fan-favourite choice Doctor Doom, or simply recast Majors, explaining his new appearance with some timey-wimey, alternate universe jargon.

At the moment it looks like it could be the first option, as sources claim the next Avengers film, which was originally called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, is now being called Avengers 5 internally.

Fortunately, the project is nowhere near completion, in fact it’s barely even begun development. There’s currently no director, script or filming for crossover, meaning Marvel still has plenty of time to brainstorm ideas and decide how it would like to move forward.

At the time of writing, Marvel is yet to provide an official statement on Majors’ departure from the MCU, or what its plans will be for the franchise in his absence.
