Avengers: Doomsday feels tangibly close, even if it isn’t set to release until 18 December 2026.
Perhaps it’s because, as it stands, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the only MCU film that stands between us and Doomsday following the recent release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Avengers: Doomsday is also well into the depths of filming and whilst the sets are largely being kept massively under wraps, the occasional tease keeps surfacing, whether that’s Pedro Pascal referring to Doctor Doom as “Daddy Doomsday” or Fantastic Four’s juicy post-credits scene.
Assumedly, Doomsday will see Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom go head-to-head as Pedro Pascal’s new hero has already been leaked as the Avengers’ new leader.

The going theory is that Doom will see himself as a hero, seeking to put a stop to the various multiversal timelines, perhaps instead creating Battleworld as the one remaining timeline.
Of course, this is just a theory but it stands to reason that Doomsday and Secret Wars will partly adapt existing comic arcs.
One fan has another Doom theory though that’s already gaining major traction online.
Twitter/X user Austin_Medzz theorises that Doctor Doom will use Tony Stark’s image to manipulate the Avengers, appearing to them as Iron Man.

That part isn’t exactly revolutionary.
The user then goes on to add, “At the end of Doomsday, his face will revert back to reality and the real Doom’s face will be revealed. Robert Downey Jr. will return as an Iron Man variant in Secret Wars to help fight Doctor Doom who stole his identity and tricked everyone.”
Admittedly, even that isn’t super revolutionary but you have to admit, Austin_Medzz is very likely onto something as many of us have been saying that Marvel will find it hard to stray away from the Iron Man nostalgia ever since RDJ was cast as Doom.
Fellow user phibbyrizz summed things up nicely: “Are there people who genuinely think there isn’t some kind of twist and they just hired RDJ because he’s ‘the best actor for the job’?”

“I think ur theory is elite brother. It makes sense actually,” added bmorelikestate.
MrMahes_ pointed out that Doom does at one point use Tony Stark’s body in the comics.
Personally, I’m not as convinced on the part about a variant Iron Man joining the Avengers in Secret Wars but I’d bet my lucky socks on Doom somehow using Tony Stark’s likeness to fool everybody.
Unfortunately, we’ve got a long wait to find out what the film has in store.
