Harry Potter fans just learning why Harry's scar is shaped like a lightning bolt

Shocking!

Some Harry Potter fans may have learned why Harry’s scar is shaped like a lightning bolt but the answer still might not be definitive.

Other than his early LEGO man haircut and his round glasses, one of Harry Potter’s most distinctive features is the lightning bolt scar on his head. Some thought the scar was shaped this way due to the Avada Kedavra spell somewhat resembling a bolt of lightning when performed

To be fair, there have been many rumours as to why Harry’s scar was shaped like this but you can always rely on Harry Potter fans to provide the much-needed lore details if we choose what to believe

“Why does Harry Potter have a lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead?” asked Redditor TheJreatJatsby.

“I understand that it’s because he’s the ‘boy that lived’, but there must be some kind of real-world reason that J.K. Rowling made it lightning bolt shaped and on his forehead,” they continued. “Something to do with the third eye possibly?”

Well, it is because of the Avada Kedavra aka The Killing Curse, but it may have nothing to do with a lightning bolt. As Reddit user Sufficient_Pin_9595 said, “It’s the wand movement of the AK spell" or as discovered by itsShane91, J.K Rowling picked the shape because it looks cool. “To be honest, because it's a cool shape. I couldn't have my hero sport a doughnut-shaped scar,” said the author.

However, SpoonyLancer has a different answer. “It's due to the fragment of Voldemort's soul that latched onto Harry and turned him into a Pseudo-Horcrux,” they explained. “Note that the scar is always what hurts when Harry has any kind of mental connection with Voldemort.”

“The lightning bolt is not due to the wand motion of the Killing Curse. The only sources that even suggest the Killing Curse has a wand motion are of dubious canon status at best.”

At the end of the day, despite J.K. Rowling saying that she chose the shape of the scar because it looked cool, the actual answer seems to be open-ended and much of the information is seemingly speculation.
