Harry Potter fans already divided over our new Harry, Ron, and Hermione casting

Can anyone fill such big shoes?

The new HBO Harry Potter reboot isn’t even here, yet the fandom is already up in arms about who will play the three main characters.

Given how many of the fandom grew up with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, it’s understandable the change might be difficult to deal with.

It isn’t just who will play which part that has fans uneasy, it’s also the logistics regarding filming the show.

One of the primary concerns is that the children picked will “age out of their roles” too quickly if each season isn’t filmed in quick succession.

Such problems also dogged the Harry Potter films.

Let's all enjoy the joy and drama of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions instead

“These long two year waits that have become the norm with TV shows nowadays simply can't happen with this one,” explained mlon_eusk12 on the television subreddit.

Whoever gets the parts has the additional challenge of making the characters their own.

“I really hope whoever gets cast doesn't feel the pressure to try to recapture the exact energy that Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson brought to their roles,” commented Upbeat_Tension_8077.

Herein lies the uphill battle that HBO has on its hands attempting to reboot the franchise.

User TheJoshider10 said, “The movies transcended being a simple adaptation, they're about as iconic in these roles as Mark, Carrie and Harrison are in Star Wars.”

Their post continued, “This TV show is going to be so interesting because the role the Harry Potter movies has in pop culture can't simply be remade.”

Without colouring anyone else’s opinion further, this is another problem that stems from how we view the books and films.

It could be argued that no matter who is chosen, the fandom will pick fault.

The pressure placed on the new cast is already immense, and it’ll only get worse as development progresses.

Anticipate more debates that turn into arguments in the future. No amount of magic can help us avoid it.
