Harry Potter fans slam major Voldemort 'downgrade' ahead of HBO series

Voldemort? More like Volderdork

Harry Potter has been around for donkey’s years now; That is to say a very long time.

In fact, it’s been around for so long that we’re finally getting a reboot in the form of a HBO series.

While the films did handle one book at a time, they condensed the stories down to a suitable length, whereas the HBO series will adapt one book per season.

See the teaser trailer from HBO Max below.

A cast is slowly being put together with hints at who could be our Snape and Dumbledore already out there, but an official cast list hasn’t been made public as of yet.

On the list of characters fans want to see recast is Voldemort.

After all, he’s a pivotal character to the story, being the main threat in the series as Harry Potter’s nemesis.

However, fans are hoping for a much more serious Voldemort this time around, as a Reddit thread criticised how the Dark Lord went from quite a menacing villain to a bit of goofy goober in the film series.

“Voldemort was terrifying in Goblet Of Fire compared to later movies,” read the thread, and while Voldemort did technically appear in previous films, the noseless villain we all recognise the most first appeared in Goblet Of Fire, played by Ralph Fiennes.

“Kids just watched it. They freaked and had to shut this part off. Everything about this moment of Voldemort was terrifying compared to subsequent films. His features, the way he is created, and his actions are just wild and he is out for blood,” said one fan in agreement.

Another added that he did indeed get a bit too wacky in future appearances, saying, “He maybe teetered over the edge of being too campy in the last two films. Although he was always a bit campy.”

If the HBO Max series is following the books more closely, perhaps we’ll get a more horrifying version of the character, especially as it’ll have more time to flesh out his story and motivations.
