Harry Potter HBO season 1 has less episodes than we expected

Harry Potter and the Short Episode Run

The first season of the Harry Potter reboot for HBO is due to be a lot shorter than many of us imagined.

According to recent news, the Harry Potter TV show, set to debut in 2027 on HBO, will only clock in at six episodes.

The same goes for the second season, as well, and both are being filmed back-to-back, likely to capitalise on the ages of actors and capturing the earlier years of Potter and his friends.

One of the major difficulties the show will face in production is how quickly the cast will grow up, and with the show being a roughly 10 year commitment, the crew will want to film as much as possible for the earlier years.

This is likely reflected in the shorter seasons, too, as well as the fact that the first two books are the shortest of the seven.

Fans on Twitter are concerned that six episodes isn’t enough time to flesh out the story.

“6 episodes???? Isn’t the whole point of this to flesh out everything the books cut? Is that enough time?” asked one fan.

However, if each episode is 50 minutes, then it will end up over double the length of the original film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

It’s likely the seasons will get longer as each book is covered, and really, there’s not a great deal to go over in the first book.

Of course, everyone is being very normal about this and demanding an end to six episode seasons, but given the cost likely invested in this show, anything more than 10 would likely cost far too much.

With filming starting now, we’re likely to get more and more information as the weeks pass, and perhaps even a teaser trailer for the show, so brace yourself now.
