In the Harry Potter franchise, the boy who lived has faced a coterie of supernatural threats, from fantastic beasts to the Dark Lord himself, Voldemort.

That said, I don’t think there’s a villain more hated in the Harry Potter universe than Delores Umbridge, the cat-loving menace that takes over Hogwarts and abuses its students and staff.

While she was defeated in Order of the Phoenix by centaurs, she makes another appearance in the following films, specifically Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One where she’s working in the Ministry of Magic.

Some Harry Potter fans have often wondered what became of her after Voldemort was defeated, as in the films it’s not really explained what happens to the vast majority of the cast other than our main trio of heroes.

In an excerpt from Pottermore shared to Reddit, it says, "With the fall of Lord Voldemort, Dolores Umbridge was put on trial for her enthusiastic co-operation with his regime, and convicted of the torture, imprisonment and deaths of several people (some of the innocent Muggle-borns she sentenced to Azkaban did not survive their ordeal)."

As one commenter summed up, it “serves her right” but one could argue that she got off too easily when so many other Voldemort supporters perished during the fight at Hogwarts.

Those who know the Azkaban lore though will know what kind of living conditions she was probably put in, so you can probably argue she got all she deserved.

It’s funny how this character who only appeared a handful of times throughout the series is somehow more hated than its big-bad, as where Voldemort is cruel to keep his plans moving forward, it always felt like Umbridge was cruel because she enjoyed it…
