DC Just Quietly Teased The Joker's DCU Origin Story

The DC Universe is shaping up to welcome an exciting few years for fans as both Batman and his friends and enemies will have their time in the limelight.

With James Gunn wanting the future of the DCU to explore Gotham City in many different ways, it seems as though that will include the reintroduction of the Joker.

For many of us, Heath Ledger is who we will picture when the Joker is mentioned, but it seems as though a new actor may be taking on the role in the future.

The Batman franchise has already had a major shake-up in recent years with movies such as The Brave and the Bold being on the docket alongside iconic DCU characters such as White Rabbit and Doctor Phosphorus recently starring in Peacemaker and Creature Commandos, respectively.

With DCU’s Gotham slowly starting to fill up, the stage may just be getting set for one of the most iconic villains of all.

We already know that Clayface is set to hit cinemas in 2026 starring Tom Rhys Harries in the titular role, but a recent set image could hint at another villain taking to the streets of Gotham.

Graffiti spelling out “The Jokers” can be spotted and this could either refer to a gang operating under the Joker’s ideals or it could mean that the man himself is on the way.

Not only that but several iconic locations from Gotham City have been spotted to be in production including Wayne Manor and Arkham Asylum.

Although Arkham Asylum is a notable location for the Joker, so too is Ace Chemics which DC Comic fans will know is where the Joker fell into a vat of acid, earning him his alabaster skin and triggering his descent into madness.

All of this seems too on-the-nose to be coincidental, but with the Joker not yet being confirmed for the future of the DCU, it still remains to be seen.

However, following the success of The Dark Knight and Joker (not you, Joker: Folie à Deux), there is no denying that fans are keen to see the Clown Prince of Crime on their screens.
