Batman fans will be devastated to learn that they were robbed after The Walking Dead star was nearly cast in the DCEU in an iconic role.

When I first saw the headline above, I knew what was coming. I knew instantly which The Walking Dead star it would be and what role they were close to landing. If you felt that too, the chances are, this news will not be pleasing to read.

As reported by ComicBookMovie.com (via Den of Geek), Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan in The Walking Dead, was nearly cast in a Flashpoint version of Batman, not as Bruce Wayne but as his somewhat more violent father, Thomas Wayne.

Fans of DC Comics have wanted to see the Thomas Wayne version of Batman in a live-action movie for years, and it is quite painful that it was seemingly so close to happening.

In an alternate DC universe, instead of Bruce Wayne’s parents being killed in Crime Alley, Bruce and his mother, Martha, are killed by The Joker, and after surviving, it is Thomas who becomes the Dark Knight of Gotham City.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan was nearly cast as Batman for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Morgan did feature as Thomas in the movie, alongside Lauren Cohan (Maggie in The Walking Dead) as Martha, but their roles were restricted to being the well-told story of the murdered parents in Crime Alley, which later motivated Bruce to become Batman.

During an interview alongside Lauren Cohan, Morgan said, “Truthfully, Zack [Snyder] was gonna do more movies.”

“I think there was a time when Flashpoint Batman would have seen these two characters in a much bigger role. And that was part of the Zack world of all of it, and then I never got a chance to do that, unfortunately.”

Jeffrey Dean Morgan really would have been the perfect actor to play the Thomas Wayne version of Batman, but sadly, that time has most likely long passed.
