Tomb Raider Remake Teased, But Players Think It's A Bad Idea

Tomb Raider fans, you may want to mark your calendars for 11 December.

After years of no news regarding the next Tomb Raider title, it seems lots of leaks are suddenly coming out regarding Lara Croft’s next adventure.

We reported earlier this week that Sophie Turner may be playing the titular heroine in the upcoming game (in addition to Amazon’s TV reboot, which she's already confirmed for) and that the game may also tie-in closely with the show.

In addition to this, a new report has surfaced a possible teaser for the next Tomb Raider game, and it seems that it could be revealed as early as at The Game Awards next week.

Tomb Raider fan account Society of Raiders posted on X (formerly Twitter) that it has heard of a remake of the original Tomb Raider game in development, and it’ll be revealed at The Game Awards on 11 December.

Although it’s a fan account, Society of Raiders has anonymous sources with insider knowledge. The account has been correct and wrong before in the past, so be sure to take all of this with a grain of salt.

If true, it would mean this would be the third time the original Tomb Raider received a remake or remaster, following 2007’s Tomb Raider: Anniversary and 2024’s Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.

With this in mind, Tomb Raider fans think remaking the 1996 game is a bad idea and that it’s time for a new Lara adventure.

“Do we really need yet another retelling of Tomb Raider 1? Especially when the actual new game still hasn't been revealed?,” reads one comment from a fan on the Tomb Raider Reddit page.

“We need a new game, we literally had a remake/remaster not that long ago,” another comment reads.

“What's the point? The thing was released, remade, remastered. Move on already,” a third comment reads. “If they want to make a new game closer to OG TR then by all means, take my money. But enough with the remakes.”

2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Tomb Raider series, so I can see why Crystal Dynamics may want to get a remake out to mark the occasion while it continues work on the next mainline title.

However, it seems like the idea is unpopular with fans. A remake of Tomb Raider 2 or Tomb Raider 3 may be more accepted, but one thing is certain: we really need a new game.
