A TikToker’s plan to do something good for her community backfired when her generosity was rejected, leading to some awkward moments and reducing her to tears.

Amelia Goldsmith, a TikTok influencer from London with over 100,000 followers, went to her local Sainsbury’s with the objective of ‘cheering somebody up’ by paying for their shopping, a very kind-hearted gesture.

Goldsmith, phone in hand, noted that she was feeling very nervous upon entering Sainsbury’s and was worried about some potentially funny looks from those she approached.

What followed was several attempts to pay for different shopper’s items, only to have her kindness rejected by the strangers, with many of them reasoning that they didn’t need anyone to pay for their items.

While there was no hostility from the shoppers, as many seemingly were touched by Goldsmith’s generous offer, it did lead to some very awkward interactions that proved to be too much for the TikTok influencer.

Goldsmith then left the shop with tears in her eyes, obviously feeling incredibly stressed and embarrassed, before speaking to her followers about the unfortunate turn of events.

The TikToker said: “I was expecting the first person to be like, overjoyed and grateful and happy for me to pay for their shopping, but obviously that didn't go down well."

Since going live on her account, the video has amassed over 700,000 views, with thousands of comments from both fans and first-time viewers providing support and constructive criticism.

One commenter said: “Well done for trying. Not enough good people like you in the world and if someone has a genuine reaction like that man did he didn’t deserve it xx”

Another believed the more upper-class area she visited was the problem, saying: “It probably didn’t work because of the type of clientele that particular area has. People in my area would be extremely grateful for this”

Luckily, Amelia Goldsmith didn’t let the experience deter her from doing something nice and made some donations to the food bank instead.
