All the way back in 2020, Hitman developer IO Interactive revealed their next project - tentatively titled Project 007. It’ll come as a surprise to absolutely no one that the AAA game is to be based on James Bond, bringing the UK’s most famous fictional spy back into the world of video games. A recent update is certain to disappoint fans though as it’s not the news we were hoping to hear after two years of development.

Take a look at the teaser trailer for Project 007 below.

Twitter user DarkDetectiveNL took to the site after analysing IO Interactive’s latest financial report. The 2021/22 report was for the most part a success. DarkDetactiveNL pointed out that it read, “We had a couple of years with solid revenue and profits, due to the launch of a title.” It’s when the report looked to the future though that things took a turn.

IO Interactive noted that, “There is a risk the next couple of calendar years, the EBITDA and profits will drop. This is due to long production phases ahead, before the next releases hit the market.” This seems to suggest that the studio doesn’t have any major releases lined up for 2022 and 2023, meaning Project 007 will likely drop in 2024 or beyond.

IO Interactive has published its Annual Report 2021/22 (year ending 31st March 2022).

Revenue came in at DKK 538m (~$72.4m), +7% YoY, more than 2x management expectations. Mostly thanks to a Xbox Game Pass deal.

Video game fans are used to lengthy development times so this won’t come as a complete shock but still, don’t hold out hope on catching a trailer anytime soon. We know the game is set to feature Bond’s origin story as players earn their 007 status but beyond this, the game’s content will likely remain a mystery for quite some time.
