This new visual overhaul for The Witcher 3 will finally let players view all of the important stuff in extremely high definition, like, for example, a pile of potatoes.
CD Projekt RED’s magnum opus The Witcher 3 is a fantastic game, but it’s not perfect.
Sure, it might have one of the most compelling narratives of the last decade. And yeah, it does have some of the most in-depth, fleshed-out quests in video game history… but the rotten cabbages aren’t in 4K resolution. Borderline unplayable, honestly.
Alright, jokes aside, every mod has to start somewhere, and the work made so far in this one does look extremely impressive. I just hope they’re moving on to the more important things once they’re finished upgrading every single food item in the game.

As spotted by Dark Side of Gaming’s John Papadopoulos, this brand new mod has overhauled roughly 41 individual models (as of writing) in the game, and it seems the mod author is nowhere near finished.
Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered - NextGen, a new mod over on Nexus by author kwest0rek, is attempting to refresh The Witcher 3’s visuals by “introducing entirely new textures and models”.
For the time being, they’re focused on the little things, like loaves of bread, apples (both bitten and whole), meats, carrots and garlic. Oh, and they’ve also taken a swing at overhauling some non-consumable items, such as metal mugs, wooden cups and ceiling wine racks.
Obviously, kwest0rek plans to tackle a bunch more assets beyond this, but you’ll have to make do with HD models for the edible stuff for now. They do seem to be making pretty frequent progress however, so keep checking back in and updating the mod if you’re curious about what they plan to tackle next.

Alternatively, if you want a more general HD texture pack (like, for instance, one that isn’t entirely food-based), DSOG highly recommends that you give HalkHogan’s mod, The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition, a look.
HalkHogan’s mod does assumedly tackle some of the food items in the game too however, so make sure there are no compatibility issues if you want to install both mods at the same time.
Personally, I’m a big supporter of the food industry, so I’m going to install kwest0rek’s mod and leave it at that.
If The Witcher 4 doesn’t have cabbages with this kind of graphical fidelity, CD Projekt RED needs to up their game.
