One The Witcher 3 player has just discovered a new secret after “roughly 1000 hours” of playtime, and I’ll be completely honest with you… I had no idea about this one.
During the quest “A Matter of Life and Death” in The Witcher 3, Geralt and Triss will run into a fella called Moritz Diefenthel.
Regardless of what you do during this quest, Moritz will act like a dick and refuse Triss’ help. I assumed this was the second-to-last time you ever ran into him.
That’s because the next time I bumped into Moritz, he was being burned alive at the stake. I sort of just assumed this was a canon event and that CD Projekt RED didn’t include any kind of option to save him, but boy was I wrong.

As user skip13ayles notes in their post over on the r/witcher subreddit, you can actually save Moritz during this little event.
They opted to murder everyone within a three-mile radius to achieve this, but a few people in the comments stated that Geralt can actually use Aard on the fire to put it out instead.
Everyone else who commented was mostly just shocked that this is even an option in the first place.
“I have about the same amount of hours and I am completely blown away by this, great find!” commented user kylekuzma0.

“Damn. Five playthroughs and I’ve just stood there and watched him burn every time,” replied user Anonimity101.
“Guess it’s time for a 6th playthrough.”
Apparently however, there’s actually a second secret inside this secret.
If you save Moritz during this event, but before starting the quest “Now or Never”, you’ll actually see him again… and then again after that.

That’s because Moritz will pop up in the crowd during Triss’ speech towards the end of the quest, after which he will successfully flee to Kovir with the rest of the mages.
Then, after all is said and done, you’ll find Moritz chilling at the Kingfisher Inn in Novigrad.
Yeah, I’d probably need a drink after all of that, too.
