According to one insider, The Witcher 3 is set to get a new DLC… and apparently it’s landing a lot sooner than you’d assume.
It’s been over ten years since CD Projekt RED dropped The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so it’s fair to say that the idea of new DLC dropping for the game sounds somewhat far-fetched.
To be fair, it’s not unheard of. The original Baldur’s Gate received an expansion titled Siege of Dragonspear in 2016, roughly 18 years after its original release, and Age of Empires II, a game that dropped in 1999, is still getting DLC to this day. In fact, they literally just announced a new expansion for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition two days ago.
Still, those are exceptions to the rule, because most publishers are seemingly only comfortable with releasing DLC as close to a game’s release date as possible.

In the case of The Witcher 3, however, there’s a pretty compelling reason as to why this latest rumour may be true– but we should probably get into the rumour itself first.
Earlier today, Borys Nieśpielak, who some of you may know as one half of the Rock and Borys podcast, revealed that he was told by a close source that DLC for The Witcher 3 is on the way, and there’s a chance that it might be announced tonight at The Game Awards.
If you’re wondering why we should believe some random guy on a podcast about something like this, Borys Nieśpielak has a relatively solid track record.

In fact, I’d wager that his mystery source is the same person behind Nieśpielak’s Cyberpunk 2077 leaks.
For reference, Nieśpielak’s batting average with Cyberpunk 2077 leaks is seemingly perfect, so I have a feeling that his source is someone close to CD Projekt RED.
This isn’t the first time that Nieśpielak has spoken about this specific rumour either, as he stated back in June that a “mysterious project by CD Projekt Red” was actually a “story DLC” for The Witcher 3 that’s being developed by Fool’s Theory, the studio behind the upcoming The Witcher remake.
So, why do I think that this rumour is probably true?
As I stated before, Nieśpielak’s history with CD Projekt RED leaks is borderline perfect, but that’s not the entire reason.
CD Projekt RED is going all-in on The Witcher at the moment. Obviously, there’s The Witcher 4 and The Witcher remake, but they’ve also revealed that their mysterious “Project Sirius” game is set in The Witcher’s universe.
I think that a small little story DLC tying the events of The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4 together would build an immense amount of hype for their upcoming games, and, ultimately, would probably satiate fans’ desire for new content (considering we won’t be getting our hands on The Witcher 4 until 2027, at the earliest).
Plus, hey, it gives them another opportunity to repackage and update The Witcher 3 for next-gen consoles. I think there’s a very, very solid chance this one ends up being true, and frankly, I’ll be kind of surprised if we don’t hear more during tonight’s TGAs.
