Who’s excited for The Witcher 3’s new-gen update? There’s less than a week to go until we can get our hands on the shiny upgraded version of Geralt, not to mention the new content, performance upgrades (including a boosted frame rate), ray tracing, and most importantly, a photo mode. Time to pour far too much time into lining up the perfect pictures and achieving little else!

Besides that though, one of the most exciting things about the new-gen update is its inclusion of mods - it was been announced that even on consoles, a number of mods have been integrated to mix up the vanilla Witcher 3 experience. As PCGamesN reports, it’s also now been confirmed that the modders behind these additions have been paid and credited for their work, which is great to see.

Over on CD Projekt Red’s forums, technical support manager Karolina ‘Vinthir’ Niewęgłowska explained: “We are including several popular mods in the update (they’ll be available depending on the platform). We obtained permissions from their creators, reimbursed them, and they’ll be featured in the credits of the updated game.

“The mods were reworked and assets optimised as needed, and the game adjusted to run with them. There was even a case when a dev got so engrossed in tinkering when including a mod that he ended up simply remaking that particular aspect of the game. So, in a way, the game comes with some mods already included.”

Niewęgłowska noted that after the update, since so many files in the game will be changed, many existing mods will no longer be compatible. As we all know though, modders work fast, so there’s no doubt that another flurry of mods will soon become available for the game after the update launches - help and advice will even be provided by CD Projekt Red’s “team of modding experts” post-release to assist with this.
