'The Sims 4' Goes Free To Play, With Extra DLC For Existing Players

From 18 October, The Sims 4 will be free to download and play on all platforms, and existing players will be getting a bonus, too.

Today is a great day for fans of house customisation, building elaborate fictional romance plots and drowning innocent characters in pools. That’s right. One of EA’s most beloved titles, The Sims 4, is going free to play on all platforms, meaning that soon anyone will be able to lose hundreds of hours of their time by living vicariously through their ideal virtual world at no extra cost.

Take a look at the trailer for The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories game pack, which released earlier this year.

The date you’ll want to mark on your calendar is 18 October - then you’ll be able to grab the base game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, Origin or the EA app. So, if you’ve managed to go the full eight years without picking this one up, there’s literally no reason not to.

What’s more, anyone who’s already bought the game (including anyone who buys it up to 17 October) will get some bonus DLC at no extra cost. The Desert Luxe Kit will give players access to new indoor and outdoor pieces, featuring neutral tones and a “luxurious and understated” look, inspired by the Southwestern desert. Make sure to redeem it through the game’s main menu before 18 October at 8am PT (that’s 4pm for UK folks).

Just because the game is going free doesn’t mean that support for it is stopping, however. “The team is more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful experiences for players, and will continue to develop and release packs, Kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future,” a press release reads.
