Despite first being released all the way back in 2003, The Simpsons: Hit & Run still manages to trigger that feeling of childhood nostalgia for many gamers.

However, a recent report reveals that there could have been a lot more to look forward to when it comes to Hit & Run, including a highly requested sequel.

Launched over two decades ago by Radical Entertainment, The Simpsons: Hit & Run was an action-adventure game set in, you guessed it, the world of the hit animated television show The Simpsons.

Marketed as Grand Theft Auto for the family, The Simpsons: Hit & Run was a hit (excuse the pun) and has been talked about constantly for the past 20-years as a result.

However, the game never received any kind of sequel which has been disappointing for fans over the years.

Well, things are about to get a whole lot more disappointing following the news that Radical Entertainment did in fact want to make a sequel but were denied by its publisher.

In an interview with Summoning Salt, Radical Entertainment’s lead designer Joe McGinn revealed that the studio had the rights for three sequels.

"Gracie Films offered our publisher a deal to make three sequels, with all Simpsons rights and voice actors, for the preferred price of zero dollars (we wouldn't have to pay anything for the Simpsons license in other words)," he shared.

However, it was never meant to be as somebody as Vivendi Games reportedly said no.

"Some crazy person at the publisher [Vivendi Games] - we never found out who - said no," McGinn said.

Told you it was disappointing, and it is no wonder that fans have been left feeling devastated.

“Wow. What a timeline we could have been in,” one user said over on r/gaming.

Another agreed, adding, “Seriously one of the greatest games - and I don't even like Simpsons.”

It seems as though Vivendi Games has a lot to answer for but who knows? Maybe this will lead to at least a The Simpsons: Hit & Run remaster in the future.
