Simpsons Hit & Run Remaster Unites Gamers Ahead of 2027 Movie

This could be the final push

Following the news that The Simpsons Movie would finally be receiving a sequel after almost two decades, The Simpsons: Hit & Run fans are hoping that this will spell good news for the beloved 2003 video game.

Earlier this week, it was revealed by 20th Century Studios that 2007’s The Simpsons Movie is finally getting a sequel with its release date scheduled for 23 July 2027.

Based on the long-running cartoon series, the movie poster was shared to social media and pictured a doughnut being grabbed alongside a tagline that reads: “Homer’s back for seconds.”

It is perhaps no surprise that a sequel is finally on the cards after The Simpsons Movie made more than $500m on the global box office but according to the movie’s producer Al Jean, any discussions of a sequel were put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Not only that but Jean revealed how the team were eager to see how Inside Out 2 performed at the box office before they thought about The Simpsons Movie sequel.

“I want to see the animation business completely returned to what it was before the pandemic,” he explained.

“And then, I think if that was the case, it would make sense to do The Simpsons theatrically.”

Luckily, Inside Out 2 performed well, reaching $1.6bn at the box office so it is perhaps no surprise that The Simpsons Movie sequel has finally been confirmed.

However, whilst we wait for the long awaited continuation, the news has got fans thinking about another hit The Simpsons project: The Simpsons: Hit & Run.

Released back in 2003, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is widely regarded as one of the best video game adaptations of all time and fans have been begging for a remake or remaster ever since.

Developed by Radical Entertainment, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is once again the talk of the town as Twitter user Kami recently shared a hit post.

“We need a Simpsons Hit & Run remaster for modern consoles,” they wrote.

As you can imagine, the Tweet soon gained traction with fans descending onto the comments with their own thoughts.

“No we don't,” one user shared. “The original already plays fine.”

However, another user disagreed, adding, “Bro, run for president and make it happen we NEED this.”

It remains to be seen if the news of The Simpsons Movie follow-up will inspire that long-awaited The Simpsons: Hit & Run sequel but for now, it is back to the waiting game.
