The next big The Legend of Zelda project has officially been delayed by Nintendo, sparking a wave of pretty brutal negativity online.
The Legend of Zelda, the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the Zelda franchise that’s being officially developed by Nintendo, has been pushed back, according to Shigeru Miyamoto himself.
“This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027”, he revealed in a post on the official Nintendo Twitter account.

“It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”
Although Miyamoto blames “production reasons” for the delay, it is somewhat suspect that the film will now be coincidentally releasing in the week that Avengers: Doomsday was originally supposed to come out (prior to its delay).
Over on the r/movies subreddit in a post detailing the news, fans aren’t reacting particularly positively to the news… although that’s more to do with the fact that they never wanted the film in the first place.
“The writer of this thing is terrible, I’d love for this to turn out good but my expectations are very low”, commented user eatbacobits.

“Really interesting they went with live action here”, replied user brokenmessiah.
“I assumed (hoped) it would be another CGI movie that goes with Super Mario to start up a Nintendo Cinematic Universe culminating in a Smash Bros movie. I saw the vision.”
Personally, I’d say I’m more apathetic about the project than upset, but… yeah, my expectations are low too.
It really does feel like it should have just been an animated project rather than live-action, but perhaps Nintendo are cooking up something special. It’ll be hard to say until we see it for ourselves.
