The Last Of Us is still winning awards, nearly ten years later

The Last Of Us stans stay winning.

The Last of Us Part I has triumphed once more, surging to the top to win the highest number of player votes in September's Players' Choice Award on PlayStation 5.

I'm sure you'll be similarly surprised to hear that water is wet and grass is green. Really, there was no way the game wasn't going to stamp out the competition when the critical and player reception of the game was so positive. Kate Harrold, our own The Last of Us liker, called Part I an "exceptional" example of a remake that honours what made the original so harrowing and impactful.

"I’m very familiar with this narrative so I wondered if it had lost some of its impact on me. I was wrong," said Kate in her review. "This is hands down the most emotionally invested I’ve been in this story since experiencing it for the first time."

The Last Of Us Part I has ameliorated the world of the original game in a variety of subtle yet significant ways. The University chapter now uses red flares to douse the encounter in a feeling of a tangible terrifying threat through the screen, and a label on a medication bottle at the start of the game reveals the possible reason that Joel gave into the darkness of his character and became a hunter. While I wasn't totally sure that a remake was necessary, details like these do sell it to you, don't they?
