The Last of Us meets Fallout in this promising new post-apocalyptic open-world survival game that’s arriving in 2026.

When it comes to post-apocalyptic series, it perhaps doesn't get much better than the likes of The Last of Us and Fallout. Albeit two very different post-apocalyptic prospects. For starters, one is a third-person action game, and the other is an RPG played over multiple visual perspectives.

The very first game in the Fallout series was released in 1997 on the PC, long before Bethesda acquired its license and released its first game, Fallout 3, in 2008. Which by the way, the latter of which is my favourite game in the series, but I digress.

When Fallout originally graced us with its presence, it was played in a trimetric perspective, unlike the first and third-person perspectives that were implemented in Fallout 3. It might be fair to say that many fans of the series would love the Bethesda property to return to its roots.

As for The Last of Us, for many, developed by Naughty Dog, this became one of the best games to ever be released on the PlayStation brand when it arrived in 2013.

A cordyceps virus has plagued the earth (which has an element of truth behind its concept), a man torn by tragedy, forges an unlikely fatherly bond with a young girl who was only meant to have been a simple mission objective.

What’s This Game That Blends The Last of Us and Fallout?

The game in question is the indie title developed and published by Revelation Games LLC, the action-survival offering, As We Survive.

“Survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Form a community, scavenge resources, build facilities, and defend yourself against a lawless world while joining a father's desperate journey to save his sick daughter,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.

After watching its gameplay trailer, As We Survive looks to be inspired by the Fallout games of the 90s with its trimetric design, with added survival/crafting elements that might be seen in games such as Rust and The Forest. It also looks like it has an intense gameplay difficulty that is not far removed from The Last of Us. In a nutshell, it looks like a very promising game indeed.

At the time of writing, As We Survive does not have a solid release date, other than a tentative 2026 release window. However, its Steam page states that it will be “coming soon” to early access.

With that in mind, it might be worth adding As We Survive to your Steam wishlist to be notified of its early access launch.
