The Last of Us was far from the worldâs first narrative-driven zombie game, and it certainly wonât be the last. Even so, one new game thatâs landed on Nintendo Switch seems a little bit too similar to Naughty Dogâs iconic title to be brushed off as pure coincidence.
Behold, The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival - a self-proclaimed âintense storyline game set in an apocalyptic world overrun by hordes of ravenous zombiesâ. The action game professes to feature a âcaptivating plotâ and âimmersive graphicsâ, but Iâve got to say that it kind of just looks like The Last of Us, but if Joel had short hair.
Take a look at this incredible mod which adds Pedro Pascal into The Last of Us Part I below.
I appreciate that might sound a little bit harsh, but the gameâs synopsis reveals that your âultimate goalâ centres around âsaving the girlâ - the same one who, in the gameâs cover art, bears a striking resemblance to The Last of Us Part Iâs Ellie. Seriously, just look at the two - they both have the exact same hairstyle and even the same outfit, give or take a few details.
âAs you navigate the treacherous city streets, you'll encounter diverse locations that hold the key to your survival,â the synopsis reads. âJourney to the library to safe [sic] an innocent girl from reckless zombies, head on to the pharmacy to secure vital medical supplies, explore the police station to arm yourself with powerful weaponry, and venture into the dark depths of the metro tunnels, where unexpected horrors await. Each location presents its own set of challenges pushing you closer to your ultimate goal: escaping the city on a ship to a safer haven and saving the girl, as each life matters when all you have left is the The Last Hope.â

While the plot admittedly sounds a bit different, the similarities are hard to ignore. The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival is currently 88% off on Nintendo Switch and costs just 99p, but I think Iâll just stick to Naughty Dogâs games.
